DRUMMER FROM CHER'S "FAREWELL TOUR" MOTIVATES YOUTH TO CREATE NOW!
Drummer Mark Schulman, in conjunction with Create Now!, a 501 (c)(3)
non-profit organization that provides creative arts mentoring for high-risk and at-risk youth in Southern California, will bring a
drum performance and motivational message to 120 incarcerated teenage boys at Camp David Gonzales in Malibu on December
6th. Mr. Schulman, who recently completed performing on Cher's "Farewell Tour" and also serves as a
board member of Create Now!, held a similar seminar in March, 2003, at another detention facility, Camp Fred Miller, with his
protégé Michael Monroe, also known as "K.L." or "Kid Lyrical." K.L. won first place in a Talent Show at Camp Miller sponsored by
Create Now!. He currently attends college while working on production of his first rap album, produced by Mr. Schulman. At the
Camp Miller seminar held last March, Mr. Schulman and K.L. invited the boys to perform and discover the joys of musical expression.
Many of the teens talked about this experience for a long time afterward. Mr. Schulman's solo event at Camp David Gonzales aims to
achieve similar success.
"Create Now! does just what the title says," Mr. Schulman said when asked
about his involvement with the non-profit. "The organization provides a chance for kids to really see new possibilities for their
lives through creative mentoring that can help them create their own transformation. We are making a difference!"
Mr. Schulman's credits, in addition to working with Cher, include Dave Koz, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks, Billy Idol, and Foreigner;
he's also a featured motivational speaker after surviving a struggle with cancer. Create Now!, founded seven years ago, impacts
the lives of thousands of high-risk and at-risk children in positive ways through a variety of creative arts experiences, including
dance, music, graphic design, television and film production. The organization provides positive adult role models, who are
professionals in the arts and can make a difference in a troubled child's life.
The media is invited to attend the December 6th
program. For more information about the event, contact Jill Gurr at (213) 484-8500 or for more information about Create Now!,
