BETWEEN THE PAGES: FINDING MY VOICE – Speaking to a Club

Welcome to the limited series return of BETWEEN THE PAGES, running Mondays and Wednesdays now through mid-December 2020! Dubbed BETWEEN THE PAGES: FINDING MY VOICE, follow Shannon’s journey as she learned and grew to become more of a public speaker, and how she’s still learning today! Today is Installment 21,  “Speaking to a Club”.

As a result of networking at LOSCON, I was asked to speak to the Orange County Science Fiction Club about my animation and blogging.

What that taught me was that the more intimate a group I found myself addressing, the more uncomfortable I actually became. Being the center of attention in a restaurant meeting room felt very different than moderating or even doing a solo talk at a convention.

At that point, I knew that I needed to grow beyond the science fiction and fantasy circuit and spread my reach so I could learn more, but I wasn’t yet sure how.

Find out more in the next installment about how joining with a new group focused on a different genre helped me see things in a new way.
